What is the Difference Between Bona Mega & Bona Mega Natural Lacquer?
"Bona Mega" and "Bona Mega Natural" are both waterborne floor finishes produced by Bona - a company known for its hardwood floor care products and edge-cutting floor sanding equipment.
Very often, while we are preparing and sanding the floors for sealing, we are asked by clients, if it is possible to seal the floors in the untreated look of the timber. The answer is in "Bona Mega Natural".
Here are the key differences between the two:
Appearance:
Bona Mega: This finish typically gives a slightly amber or warm tone to the wood, which enhances the natural color of the wood and provides a more traditional look.
Bona Mega Natural: As the name suggests, this finish is designed to provide a more natural look. It maintains the raw, untreated appearance of the wood while still offering protection. It’s formulated to keep the wood looking as close to its natural, unfinished state as possible.
Gloss Level:
Bona Mega: Available in various gloss levels such as extra matte, satin, semi-gloss, and gloss, allowing for a range of finishes from very shiny to more subdued.
Bona Mega Natural: Primarily focuses on a low gloss or matte finish to preserve the natural appearance of the wood. This helps in creating a more contemporary, low-sheen look.
Formulation and Usage:
Bona Mega: This is an oxygen-crosslinking polyurethane (OCP) waterborne formula. It's known for its durability and resistance to wear and chemicals, making it suitable for high-traffic areas.
Bona Mega Natural: Similar in formulation to Bona Mega but specifically tweaked to avoid the amber tint and to maintain a raw, natural look. It's also durable and resistant to wear but is often chosen for aesthetic purposes where the natural wood look is desired.
Application:
Bona Mega: Often recommended for residential and light commercial applications due to its durability and ease of application.
Bona Mega Natural: Used in similar settings but chosen specifically when the goal is to achieve a natural, untreated wood look.
Maintenance and Durability:
Both finishes offer excellent durability and are easy to maintain. Regular cleaning and occasional recoating can help maintain the finish and protect the wood.
In summary, while both Bona Mega and Bona Mega Natural provide durable protection for hardwood floors, Bona Mega is chosen for its ability to enhance the wood's natural color with a warmer tone, whereas Bona Mega Natural is selected to keep the wood looking as close to its unfinished state as possible with a low-gloss, natural appearance.
